Today, for the first time since losing my aunt in a car accident, I woke up wanting to be outside, to ride my bike, to revel in the beauty around me. I feel I’m in constant flux — to live life and honour her memory, but too afraid to leave my house, to miss a call or check my voicemails. Life is fragile and my fear grew out of the way she was taken from us, before her time, while she was the happiest… but what I’ve learned in the past four years is that whether I’m hidden or not, life continues around me. I’m left to choose to either watch it pass me by, or grab hold of it with both hands and hang on for the ride.

….20 years in the making — the film River Phoenix was working on before his death in 1993 is finally finished and set to be released sometime in 2012 (With the help of external funding, director George Sluizer and editor Michiel Reichwein finally completed the film they set out to make in 1993).
This film has always haunted me. It has always been an absolutely spooky storyline, even without River’s death, and I cannot wait to see this.

I also need to weigh in on the Miley Cyrus weight loss/gluten free diet. Every single girl out there wants a body like that. Cutting gluten out of your diet will not give you her body. She runs every single day, she rips Pilates and eats extremely healthy. You sitting on your computer eating salt and vinegar chips all day saying “I wish I had her body” is just silly. Girl looks fabulous and anyone would with her resources. Change your lifestyle (which means less input more output), cutting gluten out of your diet if you are not celiac is so dangerous.

So I just ordered Veganomicon (Isa Chandra Moskowitz) from Amazon and I cannot wait to obtain it. I even sprung for the hardcover because I honestly use my electronic copy everyday, and plan on using my hardcover until I lose it, die or feel like a sirloin hamburger. Until such time I will be forcing my lifestyle upon the rest of my general family — I plan on turning into a huge “told you so” douche. This has already started…. I HAD to comment on a user’s review of the vegan chocolate chip cookies.
“I used 8oz of butter and my friends had no idea they were vegan”. Well, they aren’t vegan anymore. You altered the receipe (and not that that’s not okay, in fact AWESOME you’re using the cookbook and fitting it into your lifestyle and I wish more people did this) but you can’t call black black if it’s pink. Not only is this confusing to everyone in the room eating your “vegan” 8oz butter cookies but you posting it only showcases your lack of information on the subject of veganism (which to be honest isn’t a difficult thing, but you are in possession of probably one of the best books on the subject) and therefore only further ratifies my distaste in you now. Or, and even worse, you chose to completely ignore the obvious fact and therefore you must be reprimanded. I could not let this go.

Caveat… in case the point has been utterly lost, I should mention here that I’m not passing judgement on her butter consumption.

Heartwarming Tearjerker of the Day: Scott Widak has Down syndrome and is terminally ill with liver disease, and he loves to receive mail. So his nephew Sean O’Connor recently posted his P.O. Box on Reddit, to see whether anyone might be interested in sending his uncle a letter: “One of my uncle’s favorite things to do is open mail, and I thought that if he got a lot of mail it would cheer him up.”

It’s been a month since the post, and Widak, an artist, has received mail from all over the world, including the United States, Sweden, Finland, Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom, and Mexico. Redditors have sent heartfelt letters, custom artwork, art supplies, DVDs, and personal keepsakes.

“The mail that’s arrived has all been extremely positive and thoughtful,” O’Connor says. “My family and I are amazed at how so many strangers could come together for a random act of kindness.”

RIP: Maurice Sendak, at 83: Maurice Sendak, the beloved author and illustrator of Where The Wild Things Are, has died after complications from a recent stroke. He was 83.

Sendak won nearly every major book award, including the Caldecott Medal,considered the Pulitzer Prize of children’s book illustration. He had lived with his partner, Eugene Glynn, for 50 years before Glynn’s death in 2007.
